You all make valid points, but there is one thing no one can dispute, Arnel Pineda is a talent in his own right. Read my blog, my post for my account, I first saw this guy in the 80's and never forgot it. That is the best testament that I could give. In my travels around the world I have seen numerous bands that were good, but ultimately forgettable, but Arnel's performance always stayed with me. To any naysayers I suggest you grab a microphone and unseat Arnel from his position if you can. If he's good enough for Neil et al we should support that, they are happy with him and rightly so. I'm glad that they are making music again and can't wait to see them.
This group, and I use the term lightly, touring under the name of Journey is no more than a Journey Cover Band. Steve Perry will always be the voice of Journey and no one will ever be able to replace or reproduce his sound. Support that cover band all you like, I think Steve Perry should start his own Journey Cover Band.
reading all this s***e slating steve perry n arnel is very childish n uncalled for ,for god's sake there will only b ONE voice n thats steve in my opinion.steve has left n is never gonna B with journey again get ova it lol
saying this i was never lucky enuf to c the voice with journey but i did go n c them with arnel a cpl wks ago n have to say he sounds very similar n i think he breaths new life into the band,so lets stop the childish remarks n enjoy the new plz?

first of all, I have nothing against Steve Perry and I don't care about what quarrel that had transpired between him and his former band. I love Journey and love SP just the same. and also like the new Journey with AP at the same time. what I'm quite sad about are some fans from both parties are slinging s***s and stuff coz of blind fanaticism. I don't know why some people have to put Journey down as if AP did something to SP or SP did something wrong to AP. these 2 guys are singing coz they have to earn and love and savor music at the same time.
to DJBM, put this on your shallow head. AP is a fan of SP and Journey and have the utmost respect for them. so if you are a fan and you want to have a career in music, would you like it if fellow fans hate you for merely singing and living your dream? this question is only applicable to people who have an ambition and an open understanding. so don't bother.
each individual has their own opinion. but downgrading a singer and hoping for them to fail is not merely an opinion but a sign of soberness. just enjoy the music or turn off the radio if you dont like it.
Newbie,
Define Old............ Neal and Jon are simular in age. I am glad you like Arnel, if it is your preference great. But some of us still like Steve too and are asking for you to show a little respect.
I hope we are not getting a new generation of fans who are ugly to the former members of the band and to their fellow fans as well. Newbie, this is not directed to you, but to some people I have read their posts on different sites, and are immaturely writing nasty, discusting things about Steve because they are loyal to Arnel. And vice versa. Please people show some maturity and taste.

be good to yourself
this is suppose to a decent site to talk about music journey/steve perry not nasty thoughts that you displayed about steve perry doing whatever grow up. you mentaliaty shows you age and thats not good for this site..this it to you newbie. be a better person and say positive things...
This is the legacy of the Journey fans. Some insulting Steve, some insulting Arnel, some now insulting Randy Jackson. He has a right to his oppinion. So do the fans who just like Steve. So do the fans who now like Arnel. All this quibbling, and backbiting, and meaness says so much about us. Come on guys. Some will just like Steve, some will like Arnel, some will like both. Can't we respect that? So if one says something mean about Arnel, someone feels compelled to slam Steve to show support to Arnel. Question is, why can't we respect all views? I have never seen such viciousness in the fan base before. I prefer Steve. I will go to the show this September though and give Arnel a chance. Steve will always be my favorite. Am I allowed my preference without being called names, or having to listen to some individuals trash Steve? Or can we say both men can sing. I wish Journey good luck on the road. I wish Steve good luck in all he does, hopefully we will be hearing from him soon. Would you be so mean to his face?

asskicker,
I have to agree with you. Your opinion seems to come more from an objective angle. Unlike others who argues from what seems more like emotional tantrums and bitter feelings. I don't remember reading / hearing so many complaints and criticisms when Neal hired the last two capable and competent frontmen to sing for the band. Now all of a sudden when Journey found this current singer ( Pineda ), who can actually croon and belt out their trademark style of singing, individuals like DJBM feels threatened by the fact that there's actually another singer other than our beloved SP who can carry on the torch and breath new life to the aging band. Even the once spandex wearing Randy Jackson failed to make a sane argument for his opinion other than just that...his subjective opinion. Being a so called "judge" for the AMERICAN IDOL, he knows more than anybody else that it's close to impossible to find two singers with identical voice qualities and appearance. Yet, his main criticism of AP is, AP is no SP. But I suspect that even if AP happens to sound identical to SP the main complaint will be that he lacks originality, he's not the real SP, etc.,etc. AP was already a failure to these people even before he sang his first Journey song because personal biases and tastes are at play here. Everybody has the right to their own opinion. Arguably, AP brought more success, excitement, invigorated the band, and even freshened up some old standards than Steve A, and JSS. the SP versions are intact, and still the same, we can choose to listen to only these. AP did not ruin or take away the SP recordings. We merely have a choice which to listen now, the classic "VOICE" or the fresh voice. Take your pick, but don't condemned the band just because the new singer does not fit image in your mind. Thanks "asskicker ", for echoing my sentiment. To DJBM, enjoy your SP materials, like we all do. You don't have to listen to AP and any of the band's subsequent materials, I hope you feel better.

NO . . . it sounds like Jackson, (like most fans of the real Journey) know a copycat gimmick when he sees it and like most Journey fans he will not settle for a generic wannabe cover band that keeps trying to redo what Perry did. Since the album is quickly tumbling down the charts (currently at 12 and falling) and only peaked at five in it's debut, I'd say the charts speak for themselves. I'm sure Steve Perry laughed his ass off when he saw how far they tumbled this week. With zero airplay and no truely fresh and innovative material, it'll take and even longer nose dive down the chart next week. When will those guys ever learn?
Thanks for the link.
